¿Dónde y cuándo el almirante Horatio Nelson perdió su brazo derecho? / Where and when did Admiral Horatio Nelson lose his right arm?

El almirante Nelson perdió su brazo derecho en un fracasado ataque a la isla de Tenerife en 1797. El comandante español fue el general Antonio Gutiérrez de Otero, que organizó una eficaz defensa.

A continuación puede ver dos breves vídeos, uno en inglés (4'24") y otro en español (5'32"), que narran esa batalla. No hay demasiadas diferencias entre ambas versiones. Más vídeos sobre este tema se pueden encontrar en YouTube.

Admiral Nelson lost his right arm in an unsuccessful attack on the island of Tenerife in 1797. The Spanish commander was General Antonio Gutiérrez de Otero, who organized an effective defense.

Below you can watch two short videos, one in English (4'24") and one in Spanish (5'32"), which narrate that battle. There are not too many differences between the two versions. More videos on this topic can be found on YouTube.

El mito de la Gran Armada / The myth of the Spanish Armada

En la entrada BBC FOUR y la verdadera historia de la Gran Armada dijimos que la historiadora y presentadora de TV Lucy Worsley había enmendado la plana a la versión oficial de la historiografía británica sobre la Gran Armada (mal llamada, la Invencible) en un documental emitido por BBC FOUR y titulado Royal History’s Biggest Fibs (“Las mayores mentirijillas de la historia de la realeza”).

También dijimos que un amplio reportaje en español sobre el documental podía leerse en el artículo La BBC descalifica la versión oficial inglesa sobre la derrota de la Armada Invencible publicado en Nueva Revista.

Por fin, el documental está disponible en YouTube (en inglés con subtítulos en español). Lucy entrevista en él a Luis Gorrochategui, autor del exitoso libro Contra Armada.

In the post BBC FOUR and the true story of the Spanish Armada we said that the historian and TV presenter Lucy Worsley had amended the official version of the British historiography about the Spanish Armada (wrongly called, the Invincible) in a documentary broadcast by BBC FOUR and entitled Royal History’s Biggest Fibs.

We also said that an extensive report in Spanish about the documentary was available in the article La BBC descalifica la versión oficial inglesa sobre la derrota de la Armada Invencible (The BBC disqualifies the official English version on the defeat of the Invincible Armada).published in Nueva Revista.

Finally, the documentary is available on YouTube (in English with Spanish subtitles). Lucy interviews Luis Gorrochategui, author of the successful book The English Armada.
