España, la primera globalización / Spain, the first globalization

En la entrada La Gran Armada desmitificada dábamos a entender que la Historia de España poco tiene que ver con la que ha difundido la leyenda negra. Esta leyenda es resultado de la eficaz propaganda en siglos pasados de los enemigos de nuestro país, en especial Inglaterra. Por fortuna, en la actualidad hay mucha gente esforzándose en desmontar esa leyenda y reivindicar las grandes aportaciones de España a la humanidad.

Con este objetivo se está desarrollando el proyecto cuyo vídeo (3' 48") de presentación se muestra a continuación. Puede encontrar más información en este enlace.

In the post The Spanish Armada demystified, we implied that the History of Spain has little to do with what the black legend has spread. This legend is the result of the effective propaganda in past centuries of the enemies of our country, mainly England. Luckily, today there are many people striving to dismantle that legend and vindicate Spain's great contributions to the mankind.

With this target in mind, the project, whose presentation video (3' 48") is below, is under development. You can find more information at this link.

La Gran Armada desmitificada / The Spanish Armada demystified

En la entrada BBC FOUR y la verdadera historia de la Gran Armada hablamos de un documental desmitificador. Lo encontramos completo en YouTube pero desfortunadamente ya no está disponible.

Pero lo que sí hemos encontrado es otro documental relacionado con el anterior y titulado Náufragos de la Gran Armada en Irlanda, disponible en el canal Hijos Bonicos. Lo insertamos también (algunas entrevistas están en inglés con subtítulos en español).

In the post BBC FOUR and the true history of the Spanish Armada, we talk about a demystifying documentary. We found it complete in YouTube but unfortunately it is not available anymore.

But what we have do found is another documentary related to the previous one and entitled Náufragos de la Gran Armada en Irlanda (Shipwrecked of the Great Armada in Ireland), available in the Hijos Bonicos channel. We also insert it so you can watch it ... if you understand Spanish (some interviews are in English with Spanish subtitles).

Sierra Espuña, Naturaleza y Cultura

En enero de 2019, la Comunidad Autónoma de la Región de Murcia publicó el libro Sierra Espuña, Naturaleza y Cultura. Es una completísima obra de casi 800 páginas en la que han participado 130 especialistas y 80 fotógrafos. Puede encontrar una reseña del libro y descargárselo gratuítamente aquí.

También se puede descargar por capítulos o en un único pdf desde este enlace.

In January 2019, the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia published the book Sierra Espuña, Naturaleza y Cultura. It is a very complete work of almost 800 pages in which 130 specialists and 80 photographers have participated. You can find a review of the book and download it for free here.

It can also be downloaded by chapters or in a single pdf from this link.

Un ibis sagrado cerca de Hacienda Riquelme / A sacred ibis near Hacienda Riquelme

Susana, la veterinaria de Sucina (Centro Veterinario Petlovers), nos ha enviado esta foto de un ibis sagrado, que fue tomada cerca de Hacienda Riquelme.

El ibis sagrado es una ave muy rara en España. En la Guía de Aves de España de la Sociedad Española de Ornitología (SEO BirdLife) dicen que en España se han observado apenas unas 20 parejas entre 1994 y 2004, aunque esta especie está en claro aumento.

John Girdley, nuestro vecino, entomólogo y ornitólogo, cree que también podría ser un ejemplar escapado de cautividad o un ave vagabunda en España.

Susana, Sucina's vet (Petlovers Veterinary Center), has sent us this photo of a sacred ibis, that was taken near Hacienda Riquelme.

The sacred ibis is a very rare bird in Spain. In the Bird Guide of Spain of the Spanish Ornithological Society (SEO BirdLife) they say that in Spain only about 20 pairs have been recorded between 1994 and 2004, although this species is clearly increasing.

John Girdley, our neighbor, entomologist and ornithologist, believes that it could also be a specimen escaped from captivity or a vagrant bird in Spain.

BBC FOUR y la verdadera historia de la Gran Armada / BBC FOUR and the true story of the Spanish Armada

La historiadora y presentadora de TV Lucy Worsley, en un documental emitido por BBC FOUR y titulado Royal History’s Biggest Fibs (“Las mayores mentirijillas de la historia de la realeza”), ha enmendado la plana a la versión oficial de la historiografía británica sobre la Gran Armada (mal llamada, la Invencible).

En el momento de escribir esta entrada, el documental, de 54' de duración, no está disponible en España, pero puede leer un amplio reportaje en español en la revista on line Nueva Revista, en el artículo La BBC descalifica la versión oficial inglesa sobre la derrota de la Armada Invencible.

Tanto si es usted español como si es británico, no se pierda este documental si tiene oportunidad de verlo. Comprobará que la Historia no es siempre como nos la habían contado.

The historian and TV presenter Lucy Worsley, in a documentary broadcast by BBC FOUR and entitled Royal History's Biggest Fibs, has amended the official version of British historiography on the Spanish Armada (misnamed, the Invincible).

At the time of writing this post, the 54' long documentary is not available in Spain, but you can read an extensive report (in Spanish) in the online magazine​ Nueva Revista, in the report La BBC descalifica la versión oficial inglesa sobre la derrota de la Armada Invencible (The BBC disqualifies the official English version on the defeat of the Invincible Armada).

Whether you are Spanish or British, don't miss this documentary if you have the chance to watch it. You will see that History is not always as they had told us.

El mensaje del breve vídeo (1' 37") siguiente no es nuevo. Pero es más importante si cabe tras la pandemia del covid. Además, cuando el vídeo lo realiza una buena compañía de publicidad, el resultado es impactante ¿no cree?

 

The message in the short video (1' 37'') above is not new. But it is even more important after the covid pandemic. In addition, when a good advertising company makes the video, the result is impressive, don't you think so?

Los árboles que se plantan en Hacienda Riquelme a menudo no se desarrollan y terminan secándose. Este problema se da en muchas partes del mundo y compañías como Land Life Company tienen soluciones de bajo coste aplicables a tierras degradadas. En su web pueden encontrar mucha más información (en inglés).

El siguiente vídeo muestra la tecnología que utilizan. A lo mejor tendríamos que contactar con ellos...

The trees that are planted in Hacienda Riquelme often fail to develop and end up drying out. This problem occurs in many parts of the world and companies like Land Life Company have low-cost solutions applicable to degraded lands. On their website you can find much more information (in English).

The video above shows the technology they use. Maybe we should contact them...
