Flores silvestres / Wild flowers

En el apartado 'Ruegos y Preguntas' del acta de la Junta General Extraordinaria (JGE) de la Comunidad General (CG) del pasado 28 de marzo, se dice que Las zonas donde han crecido flores silvestres están embelleciendo el complejo en diferentes fases por lo que por el momento no se quitarán. El resultado de la decisión es que el resort luce esta primavera con muchas de sus zonas silvestres llenas de colorido y vida. Estas zonas atraen y mantienen a polinizadores como abejas, mariposas y otros insectos beneficiosos para la calidad del suelo.

Este tipo de medidas ya las propusimos hace casi ¡¡3 años!! en la entrada Principios y recomendaciones para la gestión sostenible de los jardines de Hacienda Riquelme, escrita por un experto del Grupo Alternativo de Paisajismo (ALG). En ella se encuentran afirmaciones como Dejar que las flores silvestres crezcan mejorará el suelo en última instancia, en lugar de dejarlo empobrecido o también que una práctica cada vez más común en la agricultura del Reino Unido, donde se crean "franjas de hábitat" para evitar tener que usar pesticidas. Le recomendamos que lea, o relea, esa muy útil entrada. Otra jardinería es posible en Hacienda Riquelme.

In the section ‘Any Other Business' (AOB) in the minutes of the Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) of the General Community (GC) held on 28 March, it is stated that The wild areas that are growing and making the resort beautiful in different phases will remain for the time being. The result of the decision is that this spring the resort has a number of "natural" areas where wildflowers are thriving, filling the resort with colour and life. These areas attract and support pollinators such as bees, butterflies, and other insects that are beneficial to soil quality.

We proposed such measures almost 3 years ago!! in the post Principles and recommendations for the sustainable management of the gardens at Hacienda Riquelme written by an expert of the Alternative Landscaping Group (ALG). The post contains statements such as Leaving wildflowers to grow will ultimately improve the soil, rather than leaving it impoverished and highlighting the now increasingly common practice in UK farming, where “habitat strips” are created to avoid having to use pesticides. We recommend that you read, or re-read, that very useful post. Alternative approaches to STV gardening are possible at Hacienda Riquelme.

¿Por qué matar las flores silvestres? / Why kill wild flowers?

El 15 de abril, publicamos la entrada Flores silvestres después de las lluvias. El día 18, la entrada Uso masivo de herbicidas. Nos temíamos lo peor y, solo un día después, esos temores se han convertido en realidad.

La tercera foto muestra cómo quedan amarillas las suelas de unos zapatos tras pisar tierra sobre la que se aplicó herbicida. La cuarta es de unas flores que han escapado a la destrucción masiva llevada a cabo por la empresa de jardineria. Amplíe cualquier foto haciendo clic en ella.

Nos preguntamos quién, cómo y por qué gestiona así la jardinería del resort.

On April 15, we published the post Wild flowers after the rains. On April 18t, the post Massive use of herbicides. We feared the worst and, just one day later, those fears have become reality.

The third photo shows how the soles of some shoes look yellow after stepping on earth with herbicide applied. The fourth is about some flowers that have escaped the massive destruction carried out by the gardening company. Enlarge any pic by clicking on it.

We wonder who, how and why manages the gardening of the resort in this way.

Uso masivo de herbicidas / Massive use of herbicides

En nuestra entrada anterior informábamos del uso de herbicidas también en zonas silvestres del resort. Hoy nos han confirmado que los jardineros tienen órdenes de aplicar herbicidas en TODO EL RESORT, incluyendo las zonas propiedad del Ayuntamiento y las zonas cubiertas de piedras.

Nos dejan sin flores silvestres, sin insectos, sin aves, sin vida. Este no es el resort que queremos

In our previous post we reported on the use of herbicides also in wild areas of the resort. Today we have been confirmed that the gardeners have orders to apply herbicides throughout THE FULL RESORT, including the areas owned by the City Council and the areas covered with stones.

They leave us without wild flowers, without insects, without birds, without life. This is not the resort we want.

Flores silvestres después de las lluvias / Wild flowers after the rains

Durante varias semanas ha llovido en Hacienda Riquelme casi a diario. Con el agua y el sol  se ha producido una eclosión de flores silvestres de vivos colores.

For several weeks it has rained over Hacienda Riquelme almost daily. With water and sun there has been an outbreak of brightly colored wild flowers.

Lo que no entendemos es por qué en algunos casos se han segado las flores silvestres y en otros se han aplicado herbicidas. Tampoco entendemos que a un lado de la valla perimetral el campo está verde, aunque no esté cultivado, mientras que en el lado de Hacienda Riquelme hay amplios espacios sin vida ¿Algún gestor de Hacienda Riquelme odia la vida silvestre?

What we don't understand is why in some cases wild flowers have been mowed and in others herbicides have been applied. We don't understand either that at a side of the perimeter fence the field is green, although it is not cultivated, while on the Hacienda Riquelme side there are wide spaces without life. Does any manager of Hacienda Riquelme hate wildlife?

This spring you can see colourful gazanias throughout the Región de Murcia.

Wikipedia says that Gazania is often planted as drought-tolerant ground cover.

If we’d like a more coloured resort, why don’t plant gazanias?

Esta primavera se puede ver el alegre colorido de las gazanias en muchos sitios de la Región de Murcia.

La Wikipedia dice que la Gazania se cultiva a menudo para repoblar suelos áridos por su tolerancia a la sequía.

Si queremos más color para Hacienda Riquelme ¿Por qué no plantar gazanias?
