El conocido canal de YouTube VIAJANDO CONTIGO informa de que ya queda poco para que los trenes de alta velocidad lleguen a la ciudad de MURCIA. De momento las pruebas avanzan a buen ritmo. Lo cuentan en menos de 5 minutos en el siguiente vídeo (subtítulos en inglés y otros idomas disponibles).

The well-known YouTube channel VIAJANDO CONTIGO reports that there is little time left for high-speed trains to reach the city of MURCIA. At present the tests are progressing at a good pace. They tell it in less than 5 minutes in the following video (subtitles in English and other languages available).

El AVE a Murcia / The AVE to Murcia

In September 2012, at the post Hacienda Riquelme and the Murcia-Cartagena AVE, we wrote that this stretch of high-speed railway line would pass near the resort, that assuming it gets built someday. All indications are that it will be many years before this happens.

By contrast, the high speed train to the city of Murcia is much more likely to become a reality in a relatively short time.

We have contacted technicians (not politicians) who have worked for years in high-speed lines development. They have told us:

• Most of the civil works of the line between Novelda and Murcia are already built. It is the most expensive part of the project.
• Signaling installations and mobile GSM-R are pending. These works have not yet gone to tender.
• Considering that by the end of 2015 there will be general election, it is likely that the AVE to Murcia (and to León, and to Burgos) will be in service before this election.

En septiembre de 2012, en la entrada Hacienda Riquelme y el AVE Murcia-Cartagena comentamos que ese tramo de línea férrea de alta velocidad pasaría cerca del resort. Eso si se llegaba a construir. Todo indica que pasarán muchos años antes de que esto ocurra.

Por el contrario, la llegada del AVE a la ciudad de Murcia tiene muchas más posibilidades de convertirse en una realidad en un plazo relativamente corto.

Nos hemos puesto en contacto con técnicos (no con políticos) que llevan años participando en los proyectos de construcción de líneas de alta velocidad. Nos han comentado lo siguiente:

• La mayor parte de la obra civil de la línea entre Novelda y Murcia ya está construida. Es la parte más cara del proyecto.
• Faltan las instalaciones de señalización y telefonía móvil GSM-R. Estos trabajos aún no han salido a concurso público.
• Teniendo en cuenta que a finales de 2015 habrá elecciones generales, es bastante probable que el AVE a Murcia (y a León, y a Burgos) entre en servicio antes de dichas elecciones.

Hacienda Riquelme y el AVE Murcia-Cartagena / Hacienda Riquelme and the Murcia-Cartagena AVE

A few days ago, the Informative study for the high speed connection Murcia-Cartagena is available to the public in order to receive comments regarding both, the path and procedure of environmental impact assessment.

Three alternatives, called East, West and Centre, have been proposed. The Ministry of Fomento (Development) is in favour of the East option, whereby the AVE (High Speed Train) will go down a corridor parallel to the current path, near Hacienda Riquelme. This option causes a severe impact in the ZEPA ES0000269 Monte El Valle y Sierras de Altaona y Escalona, that is integrated in the Natura 2000 network.

Freight trains will continue running through the same rails as today. The new double track for the AVE will be about 2 Km farther from the resort than the current one. For project details click in any figure to enlarge.

Furthermore, on August 23, the newspaper La Verdad informed that this year it is planned to replace the Talgo-Altaria trains by new Talgo hybrid trains. These hybrid trains will use the electric high speed line between Madrid and Albacete and the non-electrified line from Albacete to Murcia and Cartagena. The time of the trip from Madrid to Murcia will be reduced by 45 minutes.

Will this project be ever implemented? We are sceptical about it in the coming years. For the time being, the ZEPA with its Eagle Owls and the people that enjoy nature are the beneficiaries of the delay.

Trazados alternativos propuestos para el trazado del AVE Murcia-Cartagena

Desde hace unos días, el Estudio Informativo de la conexión de alta velocidad Murcia-Cartagena está disponible para el público, con el fin de recibir comentarios sobre el trazado y el procedimiento de evaluación de impacto ambiental.

Se han propuesto tres alternativas, llamadas Este, Oeste y Centro. El Ministerio de Fomento está a favor de la opción Este, según la cual el AVE irá por un pasillo paralelo al trazado actual, que pasa cerca de Hacienda Riquelme. Esta opción causa un severo impacto en la ZEPA ES0000269 Monte El Valle y Sierras de Altaona y Escalona, espacio integrante de la red Natura 2000.

Los trenes de mercancías seguirán circulando por las mismas vías que en la actualidad. La nueva doble vía del AVE estará unos 2 Km más alejada del resort que la actual. Para ver detalles del proyecto haga clic en las figuras para ampliarlas.

Por otro lado, el pasado 23 de agosto, el diario La Verdad informó que este año se ha previsto sustituir los trenes Talgo Altaria-por los nuevos trenes Talgo híbridos. Estos trenes híbridos van a utilizar la línea eléctrica de alta velocidad entre Madrid y Albacete y la línea no electrificada desde Albacete a Murcia y Cartagena. El tiempo del viaje entre Madrid y Murcia se reducirá en 45 minutos.

¿Se ejecutará algún día el proyecto del AVE Murcia-Cartagena? Nosotros somos escépticos de que ello ocurra en los próximos años. Por ahora, los beneficiados son la ZEPA con sus búhos reales y los que disfrutan de la naturaleza.

Murciaeconomía com, the online financial newspaper of the Región de Murcia, has published two articles about recent statements by Rafael Catalá, Secretary of State for Infrastructures.

The first one says that Mr. Catalá expects that the International Airport of the Región de Murcia, located in Corvera, may be operational next autumn. Full article available here (translation by Google).

The second one says that the Secretary of State for Infrastructures has reaffirmed the commitment of the Govern of Spain to maintain the timetable for the arrival of the AVE (Spanish High Speed Railway) to the city of Murcia, scheduled for 2014.
