San Patricio, Irlanda, Murcia y Lorca / Saint Patrick, Ireland, Murcia and Lorca

Everyone knows that St. Patrick (385-461) is the patron saint of Ireland. What not everybody knows is that St. Patrick is also a patron of Murcia and that Lorca has a great devotion to him (the patron saint of Lorca is St. Clement).

The Council of Murcia declared him patron of the city after the battle of Alporchones, held on St. Patrick's Day in 1452. In this battle, King Juan II of Castile defeated the Muslim army of Granada when they were returning after plaguing the region of Cartagena.

In Lorca, the Collegiate Church of St. Patrick (actually, ex-Collegiate) was commanded to be erected in 1533 in memory of that battle. Its construction lasted almost 250 years. The result is a magnificent Renaissance building, monumental cornerstone of the Plaza de España (Spain Square).

Much of their files, a documentary legacy of great historical value, were destroyed by anarchists during the Spanish Civil War.

The building suffered minor damages in the earthquake of 2011. At least a video found in Youtube shows how a statue in the façade was removed after the earthquake.

As read in Región de Murcia Digital, each March 17, an Irish flag is hoisted on the balcony of the Collegiate while playing the Irish national anthem.

Todo el mundo sabe que san Patricio (385-461) es el patrón de Irlanda. Lo que no todo el mundo sabe es que San Patricio es también patrón de la ciudad de Murcia y que Lorca le tiene una gran devoción (el patrón de Lorca es San Clemente).

El Concejo de Murcia lo declaró patrón de la ciudad tras la batalla de Alporchones, que tuvo lugar precisamente el día de San Patricio en 1452. En esta batalla, el rey Juan II de Castilla derrotó a las huestes musulmanes procedentes de Granada cuando regresaban de asolar la comarca de Cartagena.

En Lorca, existe la Colegiata de San Patricio (en realidad, ex-Colegiata) mandada erigir en 1533 en recuerdo de la citada batalla. Su construcción se prolongó durante cerca de 250 años.  El resultado es un magnífico edificio renacentista, piedra angular del conjunto monumental de la Plaza de España.

Gran parte de sus archivos, que constituían un legado documental de gran valor histórico, fueron destruidos por anarquistas durante la Guerra Civil.

El edificio sufrió algunos daños menores en el terremoto de 2011. En Youtube hay al menos un vídeo en el que se puede ver como tras el terremoto retiran una estatua de la fachada.

Según se cuenta en Región de Murcia Digital, cada 17 de marzo, una bandera irlandesa se iza en la balconada de la Colegiata de Lorca a los acordes del himno nacional irlandés.

¡Eso es todo amigos! / That’s all folks!

This blog started to run on April 1st, 2010 and we have decided to stop it (or at least wind it down a lot) on April 1st, 2011.

Our recently elected Committee plans to improve communications with owners. We trust this new information policy will meet our demands through the official community website. We want to support them by putting this (fun but time consuming) blog activity on stand-by.

During this past year we have compiled and uploaded as much useful information as possible (see Blog post index). It will continue to be available and feel free to download or copy whatever you like (no copyright!).

Last but not least, special thanks to the people that have contributed in many different ways to this blog. We will meet at Hacienda Riquelme!

Este blog comenzó su andadura el 1 de abril de 2010 y hemos decidido parar (o al menos bajar mucho el ritmo) el 1 de abril de 2011.

Nuestro recién elegido Comité tiene entre sus planes mejorar la comunicación con los propietarios. Confiamos en que esta nueva política de información satisfará nuestras demandas, a través de la web oficial de la comunidad. Queremos apoyarles suspendiendo la actividad (divertida pero que requiere tiempo) de este blog.

Durante un año hemos recopilado y subido toda la información útil que ha sido posible (vea el Índice de entradas al blog). Continuará estando disponible pero no dude en descargar o copiar lo que quiera (¡sin copyright!).

Por último pero no menos importante, queremos dar las gracias de forma especial a las personas que han contribuido de muy diferentes maneras a este blog ¡Nos vemos en Hacienda Riquelme!

Hacienda Riquelme Blog ha recibido en enero de 2011 un 44% más de visitas que en diciembre de 2010. En diez meses el total asciende a 8.355 visitas, 3.148 visitantes únicos y 21.890 páginas vistas.

Queremos creer que estas cifras indican que hay entradas publicadas que resultan de su interés. Nos alegra recibir sus sugerencias, comentarios y por supuesto sus visitas. Ayúdenos a seguir así.

Data provided by Google Analytics show that in the period April 1 to December 31, 2010 Hacienda Riquelme Blog was visited 7.068 times by 2.559 unique visitors. The total number of page views stands at 18.653.

The percentage of visits coming from Sweden, Ireland, Mexico and Belgium increased during December. Visits coming from U.K. decreased. The total number of visits remains unchanged.

Según datos facilitados por Google Analytics, Hacienda Riquelme Blog ha recibido, entre el 1 de abril y el 31 de diciembre de 2010, 2.559 visitantes únicos que han efectuado 7.068 visitas y visto 18.653 páginas.

En diciembre ha aumentado el porcentaje de visitas recibidas desde Suecia, Irlanda, México y Bélgica, y han disminuido las llegadas desde Reino Unido. El total no ha variado.

El pasado 1 de septiembre de 2010, se superaron las 3.600 visitas y 10.000 páginas vistas por 1.360 visitantes. Su distribución entre abril y agosto se muestra en la tabla siguiente.
Desde julio, las visitas con origen en el Reino Unido superan ampliamente a las realizadas desde España.

This blog reached 2000 visits on July 2nd 2010 (recorded from April 1). At that time 818 visitors had seen 5999 pages.
During a period of 3 months more than 50 entries on various topics have been published, often suggested or based on information provided by other owners.
If you are an occasional visitor of the blog, a closer look to old post is recommended. A subject index is available on Blog posts index. Updates are in a regular basis. Despite being published long ago, many topics are still valid and updated.

El pasado 2 de julio de 2010 alcanzamos la cifra de 2000 visitas a este blog (contabilizadas  desde el 1 de abril). En ese momento 818 vistantes habían visto 5999 páginas.
A lo largo de 3 meses se han publicado más de 50 entradas de temas diversos, a menudo sugeridos o basados en información facilitada por otros propietarios.

La mayor parte de las visitas proceden de España y Reino Unido, pero hay un número significativo que tiene su origen en Irlanda, Suecia y Francia. Muchas menos se han efectuado desde otros 12 países o territorios.
El número de visitas recibidas contrasta con la relativa escasez de comentarios escritos. Bastantes leen el blog, pero pocos opinan.

Past April has been the first month of Hacienda Riquelme Blog life. In this period there have been 739 visits and 334 unique visitors. 2135 pages have been seen.
