Lola escribe sobre todo novela romántica, generalmente con un trasfondo histórico, pero entre sus obras hay también dos libros de cuentos infantiles, El hada del agua y Paloma y su duende.

En 2024, la Unión Nacional de Escritores de España concedió a Lola el título de Miembro de Honor en reconocimiento a su trayectoria.

In the post West Beach we discuss the novel of the same title, written by our friend, the well-known Cartagena author Lola Gutiérrez, now in its fourth edition. Lola mainly writes romantic novels, usually with a historical background, but her works also include two children's storybooks, El hada del agua (The Water Fairy) and Paloma y su duende (Paloma and her Goblin).

In 2024, the Unión Nacional de Escritores de España (National Union of Writers of Spain) awarded Lola the title of Honorary Member in recognition of her career.

En nuestra anterior entrada, hablamos de los naufragios ocurridos en los alrededores del Cabo de Palos.

El más dramático de todos fue el del trasatlántico italiano Sirio, en 1906. Era un buque que transportaba principalmente emigrantes con destino a Brasil, Uruguay y Argentina. Iba abarrotado porque muchos de los pasajeros viajaban como polizones. Por eso, nunca se sabrá el número exacto de muertos, aunque fueron centenares.

La conocida escritora cartagenera Lola Gutiérrez ha publicado una preciosa novela romántica con trasfondo histórico, Playa de Poniente. Está ambientada en ese naufragio y relata con todo detalle los terribles hechos que acontecieron.

A veces se habla del Sirio como el Titanic español (o más bien italiano) pero, en realidad, el Titanic fue el Sirio inglés. El Titanic se hundió en 1912.

Playa de Poniente es un éxito de ventas y, en el momento de escribir esta entrada, va por su tercera edición. Seguro que habrá más.

In our previous post, we talked about the shipwrecks that occurred in the surroundings of Cabo de Palos.

The most dramatic of all was that of the Italian ocean liner Sirio, in 1906. It was a ship that mainly transported emigrants bound for Brazil, Uruguay and Argentina. She was overcrowded because many of the passengers were traveling as stowaways. For this reason, the exact number of dead will never be known, although there were hundreds.

The well-known Cartagena writer Lola Gutiérrez has published a beautiful romantic novel with a historical background, Playa de Poniente. It is set in that shipwreck and recounts in detail the terrible events that occurred.

Sirio is sometimes referred to as the Spanish (or rather Italian) Titanic, but in reality, the Titanic was the English Sirio. The Titanic sank in 1912.

Playa de Poniente is a bestseller and, at the time of writing this post, it is in its third edition. We are sure there will be more.
