Land Life Company
Los árboles que se plantan en Hacienda Riquelme a menudo no se desarrollan y terminan secándose. Este problema se da en muchas partes del mundo y compañías como Land Life Company tienen soluciones de bajo coste aplicables a tierras degradadas. En su web pueden encontrar mucha más información (en inglés).
El siguiente vídeo muestra la tecnología que utilizan. A lo mejor tendríamos que contactar con ellos...
The trees that are planted in Hacienda Riquelme often fail to develop and end up drying out. This problem occurs in many parts of the world and companies like Land Life Company have low-cost solutions applicable to degraded lands. On their website you can find much more information (in English).

Sucina. Boletín El Gavilán nº3 / El Gavilán (The Hawk) newsletter nº3
Estamos encantados de informarles que ya está disponible el nº3 del Boletín El Gavilán. Como ya saben, trata de la historia de Sucina y su gente y lo edita Alberto Hill Giménez desde el Centro de Estudios de Sucina en Cataluña. Los vecinos (con alas) de Silvia ya tienen polluelos / Silvia's (winged) neighbours already have chicks
A primeros del mayo, dos parejas de golondrinas construyeron sus nidos en la terraza de Silvia y pusieron huevos.
Todas las tardes, Silvia se deleita con los alegres y vistosos vuelos de estas pequeñas aves ¡Un auténtico ballet!
In early May, two pairs of swallows built their nests on Silvia's terrace and laid eggs.
Every afternoon, Silvia delights in the happy and acrobatic flights of these small birds. A real ballet!
A primeros de junio, los huevos habían eclosionado y los polluelos crecían rápido. Daba gusto verles aparecer tímidamente al borde de su nido, pidiendo comida a sus padres.
In early June, the eggs had hatched and the chicks were growing fast. It was nice to see them appear shy on the edge of their nest, asking for food to its parents.

El cisne negro ya no está con nosotros / The Black Swan is no longer with us
Tenemos una triste noticia de la que informar. Carlitos, nuestro cisne negro, la mascota del resort, nuestro vecino desde hace más de tres años, ya no está con nosotros.
El lunes 25 de mayo hacia las 7 de la mañana, Carlitos se electrocutó al tropezar con unos cables eléctricos situados junto a la vía del tren. Cayó muerto cerca de la estación de Riquelme-Sucina, al lado de la valla perimetral del resort.
El accidente provocó un estruendo y un gran fogonazo que, a pesar de la hora, fueron observados por varios residentes y trabajadores del resort. Nos han contado que incluso se interrumpió el suministro eléctrico en parte de Hacienda Riquelme.
Para que el recuerdo que nos quede de Carlitos sea más persistente, insertamos a continuación los que probablemente sean los dos últimos breves vídeos que se grabaron de él.
We have sad news to report. Carlitos, our Black Swan, the mascot of the resort, our neighbour for over three years, is no longer with us.
On Monday, May 25, around 7 in the morning, Carlitos became electrocuted when he tripped over electrical cables located next to the train track. He fell dead near the Riquelme-Sucina station, next to the perimeter fence of the resort.
The accident caused a big noise and a great flash that, despite the hour, were observed by several residents and workers of the resort. They have told us that even the electricity supply was interrupted in a part of Hacienda Riquelme.
To make the memory that remains of Carlitos more persistent, we insert here what are probably the last two short videos recorded of it.

Sobre el Catedrático de Ecología de la Universidad de Murcia / About the Professor of Ecology at Murcia University
José Francisco Calvo Sendín es Catedrático de Ecología de la Universidad de Murcia.
Le tenemos un gran aprecio por la labor que hace en
favor del medioambiente. Entre otras muchas actividades, ha realizado diversos documentales sobre la fauna y flora de la Región de Murcia,
que nos ha permitido amablemente publicar en diferentes entradas de este blog (vea los enlaces al final).
José Francisco ha visitado nuestro resort (espera repetir pronto) para ver en persona los valores medioambientales, que cada vez más personas con cariño y esfuerzo llevamos años intentado divulgar (gracias John, Carlos, Silvia, Roger....).
José Francisco tiene una página web de gran interés (http://fobos.inf.um.es/jfcalvo/) que recomendamos visitar a cualquier amante de la naturaleza, en particular de la murciana. A través de su página hemos descubierto su canal de YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/user/jfcalvo64/videos). Es espectacular. Contiene un gran número de vídeos de corta duración pero grabados en alta resolución, muchos en 4K, sobre todo de aves. A poco que le guste la vida silvestre, no deje de ver estos vídeos. Podrá ver, escuchar y aprender a identificar muchas aves presentes en Hacienda Riquelme y alrededores ¡No se los pierda y disfrútelos!
José Francisco Calvo Sendín is Professor of Ecology at Murcia University. We appreciate him a lot for the work he does in favour of the environment. Among many other activities, he has made several documentaries about the fauna and flora of the Region of Murcia, that he has kindly allowed us to publish them in different posts on this blog (see the links below).
José Francisco has visited our resort (he hopes to come again soon) to see in person the environment assets that more and more people with love and effort have spent years trying to spread (thanks John, Carlos, Silvia, Roger ...).

Sucina y los blogs / Sucina and the blogs
Sucina tiene vecinos muy participativos, con muchas iniciativas. Lo pusimos de manifiesto en la entrada Sucina y la música y volvemos a ponerlo aquí. Algunos sucineros tienen además mucho que contar y que compartir. Como también han llegado a dominar el uso de la herramienta Blogger, la sacan mucho partido y la aprovechan muy bien. Vamos a ver dos ejemplos.
Sucina has very participative inhabitants, with lots of initiatives. We showed it in the post Sucina and the music and we will show it here again. Some sucineros (people from Sucina) have also a lot to tell and share. Besides, they master the use of the Blogger tool, make the most of it and manage very well. We are going to see two examples.
Resumiendo, este blog es un espacio original, para gente con sensibilidad, dedicado a la cultura y además made in Sucina ¡Bien por Mari Carmen!
Mari Carmen Olmos is the blogmaster of Sucina. Poetas y derivados... (Sucina. Poets and derivatives ...), a site dedicated to poetry. In this blog she collects her own creations, by other sucineros, by classic authors, anonymous texts that are not less beautiful... And not only that, within the blog there are pages about photography, myths and legends, painting and sculpture, curiosities….
In short, this blog is an original site, for people with sensitivity, dedicated to culture and made in Sucina. Good for Mari Carmen!
Tenemos motivos para creer que Juan Antonio reanudará la actividad de su blog a no tardar mucho. Según él mismo nos ha comentado, en los últimos meses y junto con otros sucineros, han recuperado cantidades ingentes de documentos e información de archivo, que le gustaría poner a disposición de sus vecinos ¡Vuelve pronto, Juanico!
Juan Antonio López Iniesta was the blogmaster of Sucina. Ayer, hoy y siempre (Sucina. Yesterday, today and always). We say ‘he was’ because he did an hard job between 2010 and 2015, by generating very interesting posts on the history of Sucina and its people. His blog is a source of valuable original documentation and a true digital local newspaper, which remains the object of visits and inquiries.
We have reasons to believe that Juan Antonio will resume his activity in this blog soon. As he himself has told us, in recent months and along with other sucineros, they have recovered huge amounts of documents and information from archives, that he would like to put available to his neighbours. Come back soon, Juanico!

Mari Carmen Olmos es la administradora de Sucina. Poetas y derivados..., sitio dedicado a la poesía. Juan Antonio López Iniesta fue el administrador de Sucina. Ayer, hoy y siempre. Decimos que fue porque realizó una intensa labor entre 2010 y 2015, generando interesantísimas entradas sobre la historia de Sucina y su gente. Una ardilla en el resort / A squirrel at the resort
En esta primavera esplendorosa para la vida silvestre en Hacienda Riquelme, Carlos Rebollo nos regala ahora un vídeo de una ardilla grabado en el resort. Estos pequeños roedores son relativamente frecuentes en algunas zonas de la urbanización pero, que sepamos, es la primera vez que una tiene la amabilidad de posar así para nosotros.
In this splendid spring for wildlife at Hacienda Riquelme, Carlos Rebollo presents us this time a video of a squirrel shot at the resort. These small rodents are quite frequent in some areas of the urbanization but, as far as we know, it is the first time that one is kind enough to pose for us that way.

Cada año en primavera se produce en la naturaleza una explosión de vida silvestre, también en Hacienda Riquelme. En 2020, quizá por la menor presencia de personas debido al Covid-19, Carlos Rebollo está teniendo oportunidad de filmar y fotografiar a especies difíciles de ver, como el erizo de tierra, y a otras más comunes, pero escurridizas, como la lagartija ¡Gracias Carlos, por acercarnos la fauna del resort!
Every year during the spring, an explosion of wildlife occurs in nature, also in Hacienda Riquelme. In 2020, perhaps due to the lower presence of people caused by Covid-19, Carlos Rebollo is having the opportunity to film and photograph not easy-to-see species, such as the ground hedgehog, and other more common, but elusive species, such as small lizards. 15 aves y sus cantos / 15 birds and birdsounds
Durante estos días de encierro en casa por causa del Covid-19, nos ha llegado un vídeo que recoge los cantos de 15 aves diferentes. Como muchas de ellas están presentes en Hacienda Riquelme y alrededores, dedicamos una entrada a dicho vídeo.

During these days of home isolation due to the Covid-19, we got a video that collects the songs of 15 different birds. As many of them are present in Hacienda Riquelme and surroundings, we are glad to write a post with this video.

En una entrada anterior hablamos de las Guitarras artesanales hechas en Sucina por Ginés Marín. Nuestro querido amigo Teodoro Alcaraz, nos comentó que no entrábamos en otra de las características de los habitantes de Sucina: su gran aficción por la música. Y como tenía razón, vamos a ver algunos ejemplos.
Eva M. Marín Olmos, hija de Ginés Marín y Mari Carmen Olmos (blogmaster de Sucina. Poetas y derivados) es profesora de piano en la Escuela de Arte Drámatico de Murcia, mientras que su marido, Gines Martínez Vera, es director de orquesta, compositor, arreglista y trabaja como profesor en el Conservatorio de Música de Cartagena. Este matrimonio reside en Sucina y son sucineros hasta la médula.
In a previous post we wrote about the Handcrafted guitars made in Sucina by Ginés Marín. Our dear friend Teodoro Alcaraz told us that we did not talk about another relevant characteristic of the Sucina inhabitants: their great love for music. And as he was right, let's see now some examples.
Eva M. Marín Olmos, a daughter of Ginés Marín and Mari Carmen Olmos (blogmaster of Sucina. Poetas y derivados) is a piano teacher at the School of Dramatic Art in Murcia, while her husband, Gines Martínez Vera, is conductor, composer, arranger and works as a teacher at the Conservatory of Music in Cartagena. This couple lives in Sucina and they are sucineros to the core.
Además, Sucina tiene su propia Banda de Música, cuyos integrantes organizaron este año, en un aula del Centro Cultural, clases de música para niños. Estaban inscritos alrededor de 20 niños, incluidos 3 o 4 de Avileses a los que traían sus padres.
Todo se vino abajo la primera semana de marzo por el Covid-19. Esperemos que regrese la normalidad y se puedan reanudar las clases el próximo curso.
In addition, Sucina has its own Music Band, whose members organized music lessons for children in a classroom at the Cultural Center this year. About 20 children were enrolled, including 3 or 4 from Avileses who were brought by their parents.
Everything went wrong in the first week of March due to Covid-19. Let's hope normality returns and lessons can be resumed next academic course.
En el Centro Cultural también se impartían clases de baile para niños, sobre todo de flamenco, en las que otra veintena de chicas y chicos estaban aprendiendo.
Y hablando de flamenco, no podemos dejar de citar al Festival De Flamenco Va de Sucina, organizado por la Peña Flamenca de Sucina y que debería celebrar su XIV edición el próximo mes de julio .
At the Cultural Center, there were also dance lessons for children, especially flamenco, with another twenty boys an girls learning there.
And speaking about flamenco, we cannot fail to mention the Sucina's Festival De Flamenco Va, organized by the Peña Flamenca de Sucina and that it should celebrate the XIV edition next July.
Pero hay más. Se trata de un grupo musical que se llama Cantos del Corazón. Lo integran mayores y lo promueve la Asociación de las amas de casa. Ensayan en el Centro Cultural todos los martes y hacen actuaciones varias veces al año.
But there is more. It is a musical group called Cantos del Corazón (Heart Songs). It is made up of elder people and is promoted by the Asociación de Amas de Casa (Housewives Association). They rehearse at the Cultural Center every Tuesday and do performances several times a year.
Para finalizar, debemos citar al street festival ilovesucina, con el que Pepe Mercader ha convertido a Sucina en el centro de ocio veraniego de la comarca. Como a tantas otras cosas, el Covid-19 pone en riesgo su celebración durante el verano de 2020.
To finish, we must mention the ilovesucina street festival, with which Pepe Mercader has turned Sucina into the summer leisure center of the area. Like so many other things, the Covid-19 puts its celebration at risk during the summer of 2020.

Un lagarto ocelado en el resort / An ocellated lizard at the resort
Una vez más, nuestro querido amigo y greenkeeper Carlos Rebollo nos ha enviado un breve vídeo sobre la fauna silvestre presente en Hacienda Riquelme. En este caso se trata de un lagarto ocelado.
No es la primera vez que se ve esta especie en el resort. Por desgracia, los gatos suelen acabar con ellos, igual que ocurre con muchos polluelos de las aves que crían en los alrededores de los lagos.
Once again, our dear friend and greenkeeper Carlos Rebollo has sent us a short video about the wildlife present at Hacienda Riquelme. In this case it is about an ocellated lizard.
This is not the first time this species has been seen at the resort. Unfortunately, cats often kill them, such as they do with many chicks of breeding birds around the lakes.
