V Festival Flamenco de Sucina / V Flamenco Festival of Sucina

From next Wednesday July 27th to Saturday 30st, V Flamenco Festival “De Flamenco Va” will be held at Sucina. It is organized by the Peña Flamenca de Sucina.

Desde el miércoles 27 al sábado 30 de julio próximos tendrá lugar en Sucina el V Festival de Jóvenes Flamencos “De Flamenco Va” que organiza la Peña Flamenca de Sucina.

The origin of love to flamenco in Sucina and the importance that this festival has gained in its still short history are described in the article reproduced in the figure below. The author is Mr. Luis Lison, Sucina’s Official Chronicler. It was published in the newspaper La Opinión de Murcia in late 2010.

El origen de la afición al flamenco en Sucina y la importancia que este festival ha ido adquiriendo en su todavía breve historia se describen en el artículo que reproducimos en la figura siguiente. La Comunidad de Murcia busca capital árabe para los grandes proyectos regionales / The Community of Murcia seeks Arab capital for main projects in region

The Community of Murcia is seeking funds for its main future projects in the region. These projects are:

• Paramount theme park in Alhama.
• Marina de Cope tourist space.
• Container terminal in El Gorguel.
• Medfood-Food Industry City.
• Fair and congress palace of Murcia.
• Center for Digital Knowledge and Creativity Studies, Contentpolis.
• Photovoltaic Solar Central.

8.000 M€ are needed for financing these initiatives. The first opportunity to get them will happen on next June 28th and 29th when more than 150 investors from the Middle East will gather at the Intercontinental Hotel in Torre Pacheco to attend the Arab Investment Forum to be held for the first time in Europe.

La Comunidad de Murcia se ha lanzado a buscar financiación para los grandes proyectos de futuro de la Región. Estos proyectos son:

• Parque temático de Paramount en Alhama.
• Espacio turístico de Marina de Cope.
• Terminal de contenedores de El Gorguel.
• Ciudad de la Industria Alimentaria-Medfood.
• Recinto ferial y palacio de congresos de Murcia.
• Centro de Conocimiento Digital y la Creatividad Audiovisual, Contentpolis.
• Central Solar Fotovoltáica.

Para estas iniciativas se necesitan 8.000 millones de euros. La primera oportunidad para conseguirlos llega los próximos días 28 y 29 de junio, cuando más de 150 inversores procedentes de Oriente Medio se reunirán en el hotel Intercontinental de Torre Pacheco para asistir al Arab Investment Forum, que se celebrará por primera vez en Europa.

Esqueleto de una joven neandertal encontrado en la Sima de las Palomas / Skeleton of a Neanderthal girl found in the Sima de las Palomas

A team from the University of Murcia (UMU), led by Professor Michael Walker, has described in the american journal PNAS (Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America) the first articulated skeleton of an adult Neanderthal found in the European Mediterranean coast.

The Neanderthals who lived in Murcia were significantly lower than their northern European peers, but their size and strength were similar. This follows from the analysis of the skeleton of a young Neanderthal woman, almost complete, excavated in the Sima de las Palomas in the municipality of Torre Pacheco. It is between 45,000 and 55,000 years old and it is the most complete skeleton found so far in terms of anatomical connection.

Un equipo de la Universidad de Murcia (UMU), dirigido por el profesor Michael Walker, ha descrito en la revista estadounidense PNAS (Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America) el primer esqueleto articulado de un neandertal adulto encontrado en el litoral mediterráneo europeo.

Los neandertales que hace 50.000 años vivían en Murcia eran bastante más bajos que sus coetáneos del norte de Europa, aunque su corpulencia y robustez eran parecidas. Así se desprende del análisis del esqueleto de una mujer neandertal joven, casi completo, excavado en la Sima de las Palomas del municipio de Torre Pacheco. El esqueleto, de entre 45.000 y 55.000 años de antigüedad, es el más completo encontrado hasta el momento en cuanto a conexión anatómica.

Sucina is one of the only two districts of the City of Murcia town hall where the PSOE won over PP in the last local elections. The winning bid was led by José Mercader, an independent candidate (not affiliated with the PSOE).

Sucina es una de los dos únicas pedanías del ayuntamiento la ciudad de Murcia donde el PSOE ganó al PP en las últimas elecciones locales. La candidatura ganadora la encabezó José Mercader, un independiente (no afiliado al PSOE).

Riesgo sísmico en España / Seismic risk in Spain

On Sunday May 15, Eureka, the science pages of El Mundo newspaper, included several articles related to the last earthquake in Lorca and about seismic risk in Spain.

One of them had the figure reproduced below (click to enlarge). It provides data on major earthquakes in Southern Spain during the last 850 years.

For more information on the topic we suggest you to visit the Servicio de Información Sísmica (Seismic Information Service) of the Instituto Geográfico Nacional (National Geographic Institute) and to read the recommendations for earthquakes available in Protección Civil website.

El pasado domingo 15 de mayo, Eureka, el suplemento de ciencia del diario El Mundo, incluyó varios artículos relacionados con el terremoto de Lorca y el riesgo sísmico en España.

Uno de ellos contenía la figura que reproducimos más arriba (haga clic para ampliar). Ofrece datos sobre los principales terremotos ocurridos en el sur de España durante los últimos 850 años.

Aves en Hacienda Riquelme (3) / Birds in Hacienda Riquelme (3)

Months ago, a list of birds seen or heard in Hacienda Riquelme was included in the page of this blog Nature and birdwatching. We have just updated it with recent John Girdley’s birdwatching (many thanks!). We changed the format to make consults easier.

The rich bird life in Hacienda Riquelme is due to the resort location and to the existence of five small lakes. We are located in the countryside, between two areas with special protection for birds: Monte el Valle and Sierras de Altaona and Escalona, and the Salinas de San Pedro del Pinatar. There is also a corridor used by many migratory birds that cross by Ginovinos pass.

In the days leading to Easter almost 50 different species of birds were identified within the 135 hectares of the resort. It is gratifying to see how the mix of a large estate development and a golf course has led to a real natural park. Let’s be aware of this asset, enjoy and take care of it (despite the little annoyances that birds can sometimes cause at buildings).

En la página de este blog Naturaleza y observación de aves incluimos hace meses una lista de las aves vistas u oídas en Hacienda Riquelme. Acabamos de actualizarla con las últimas observaciones de John Girdley (¡muchas gracias!). Hemos modificado su formato para facilitar las consultas.

La riqueza ornitológica de Hacienda Riquelme se debe a la ubicación a la ubicación del resort y a la existencia de cinco pequeños lagos. Estamos situados en medio del campo, entre dos zonas ZEPA: Monte El Valle y Sierras de Altaona y Escalona, y las Salinas de San Pedro del Pinatar. Además, hay un corredor utilizado por muchas aves migratorias, que pasa por el collado de los Ginovinos.

En los días previos a la Semana Santa se han identificado casi 50 especies diferentes de aves dentro de las 135 Ha del resort. Es gratificante ver como la combinación de un gran desarrollo urbanístico y un campo de golf ha dado lugar a un auténtico parque natural. Seamos conscientes del activo que tenemos, disfrutémoslo y cuidémoslo (a pesar de las pequeña molestias que a veces puedan causar las aves en los edificios).

Sucina is a small village but it celebrates a really nice Good Friday Parade. There were a lot of people, including many Hacienda Riquelme neighbours. This blog started to run on April 1st, 2010 and we have decided to stop it (or at least wind it down a lot) on April 1st, 2011.

Our recently elected Committee plans to improve communications with owners. We trust this new information policy will meet our demands through the official community website. We want to support them by putting this (fun but time consuming) blog activity on stand-by.

During this past year we have compiled and uploaded as much useful information as possible (see Blog post index). It will continue to be available and feel free to download or copy whatever you like (no copyright!).

Last but not least, special thanks to the people that have contributed in many different ways to this blog. We will meet at Hacienda Riquelme!

Este blog comenzó su andadura el 1 de abril de 2010 y hemos decidido parar (o al menos bajar mucho el ritmo) el 1 de abril de 2011.

Nuestro recién elegido Comité tiene entre sus planes mejorar la comunicación con los propietarios. Confiamos en que esta nueva política de información satisfará nuestras demandas, a través de la web oficial de la comunidad. Queremos apoyarles suspendiendo la actividad (divertida pero que requiere tiempo) de este blog.

Durante un año hemos recopilado y subido toda la información útil que ha sido posible (vea el Índice de entradas al blog). Continuará estando disponible pero no dude en descargar o copiar lo que quiera (¡sin copyright!).
