On May 13, the newspaper La Verdad has published in the section Letters to the Editor one about Hacienda Riquelme. We transcribe it in full below, in Spanish and English.

Hacienda Riquelme es un gran resort situado en el municipio de Murcia, muy cerca de Sucina. Consta de 1864 apartamentos y el presupuesto anual de la comunidad de propietarios se acerca a 3.500.000 euros. Gran parte de este dinero se queda en Murcia, en las empresas de servicios que mantienen la urbanización en buen estado. Pero hay mucho más.

Los propietarios consumen agua potable, electricidad y gas y pagan el IBI. Muchos de ellos son de fuera de Murcia, sobre todo extranjeros, y al comprar sus apartamentos suelen invertir además en mobiliario y reformas. Por supuesto, todos los residentes también comen, beben y pagan IVA. Hay muchísimo dinero en movimiento.

Sin embargo, Hacienda Riquelme está muriendo… de sed. Desde el 1 de mayo no tiene una gota de agua para el riego de sus jardines, uno de sus principales atractivos. Hace años que los sucesivos comités encargados de su gestión han puesto todo su empeño en reducir el consumo del líquido elemento, introduciendo cambios enfocados a hacer el resort más ecológico.

Pero sin agua, el césped, que cada vez ocupa menos superficie, desaparecerá. Muchos árboles, el principal activo de la jardinería, tampoco sobrevivirán al próximo verano. Si las zonas verdes colapsan, recuperarlas tras haberse convertido en un desierto tendrá un coste difícilmente abordable. El resort perderá atractivo y la actividad económica asociada decaerá. Sin agua todos perdemos.

Y no es solo cuestión de dinero. Hacienda Riquelme está muy cerca de la ZEPA de Monte El Valle y Sierras de Altaona y Escalona y la riqueza ornitológica en el propio resort es muy importante. A lo largo de los años se han observado cerca de 100 especies diferentes de aves. Unas son acuáticas, que aprovechan los lagos del campo de golf. Otras son pequeñas aves, que se benefician de los jardines del resort. Las hay migratorias y las hay no tan pequeñas. Se han llegado a ver búhos reales y varias especies de rapaces nocturnas y diurnas.

Otros resorts de Murcia padecen los mismos problemas que Hacienda Riquelme. Si todos contribuyen tan significativamente a la economía local, entonces ¿por qué tienen la última prioridad a la hora de asignarles agua? Dar un poco de aire, perdón, un poco de agua a una de las más importantes industrias de la Región de Murcia solo puede aportar beneficios ¿Se han planteado el Ayuntamiento y el Gobierno regional cuánto dinero tienen en juego? Con agua todos ganamos.

Hacienda Riquelme is a large resort located in the municipality of Murcia, very close to Sucina. It consists of 1,864 apartments and the annual budget of the community of owners is around €3,500,000. Much of this money stays in Murcia, in the service companies that keep the urbanization in good condition. But there is much more.

The owners consume drinking water, electricity, gas, pay the IBI. Many of them come from outside Murcia and frequently are foreigners. When they buy their apartments, they also invest in furniture and reforms. Of course, all the residents also eat, drink, and pay VAT. There is a lot of money circulating.

However, Hacienda Riquelme is dying… of thirst. Since May 1, it has not a single drop of water to irrigate its gardens, one of its main attractions. For years, the successive committees managing the resort have put their efforts into reducing the consumption of the liquid element. Changes have been made to get the resort more ecological.

But without water the grass, which occupies less and less surface, will disappear. Many trees, the main asset of gardening, will not survive the coming summer either. If the green areas collapse, recovering them after having become a desert will have a cost that is difficult to afford. The resort will lose its attractiveness and the associated economic activity will fall. Without water we all lose.

And it's not just a matter of money. Hacienda Riquelme is very close to the ZEPA of Monte El Valle and Sierras de Altaona and Escalona and the ornithological wealth in the resort itself is very important. Over the years, nearly 100 different species of birds have been watched. Some are aquatic that take advantage of the lakes of the golf course. Others are small birds that benefit from resort's gardens. Some are migratory and some are not so small. Eagle owls and several species of nocturnal and diurnal birds of prey have been seen.

Other resorts in Murcia also suffer from the same problems as Hacienda Riquelme. If they all contribute significantly to the local economy, why do they have the last priority when it comes to allocating water to them? Giving a little air, sorry, a little water to one of the most important industries in the Region of Murcia can only bring benefits. Have the City Council and the Regional Government considered how much money they have at stake? With water we all win.

New Corvera airport, AVE (High Speed Railway) and Paramount Park are three relevant projects for the future of the Región de Murcia.

On Saturday March 26th, the newspaper La Verdad published an article entitled Paramount Park will host the largest convention center in the Region. El nuevo aeropuerto de Corvera, el AVE y el parque temático Paramount son tres proyectos relevantes para el futuro de la Región de Murcia.

El sábado 26 de marzo, el periódico La Verdad publicó un artículo titulado El parque Paramount acogerá el mayor centro de convenciones de la Región. Suena un poco a propaganda y los comentarios de los lectores son a menudo críticos, pero incluye algunos datos interesantes. Le sugerimos que lo lea y se forme su propia opinión sobre este tema.

El parque de Paramount y los ‘bancos de Polaris’ / The Paramount Park and the ‘banks of Polaris’

During the past few days many articles speculating on the future location of the Paramount thematic park in the Region of Murcia have been published in the press, mainly by the Vocento group (ABC, La Verdad). Specifically, on 16 September La Verdad said:

"One of the leading roles belongs to a group of banks and savings banks that now owns the land that Polaris World had in Alhama de Murcia (nine million square meters). These institutions (Caja Mediterráneo, Bancaja, Banco de Valencia, Banco Popular and Cajamurcia), integrated in the IRM group (Inversiones Resort Mediterráneo) could become part of the group of investors responsible for developing the Paramount park, so that their role is not limited only to selling the land. Project developers would thus kill two birds with one stone: part of the investors they are looking would at the same time provide the land.

Although IRM is best placed in the starting line, the regional government stated yesterday that nothing has been decided and other sites are under consideration, such as Cartagena-Murcia-axis, near the future airport. He does not deny, however, that Alhama offers some advantages, such as the fact that the land is available and that there would be no need to negotiate with a multitude of owners. It says the holding company has yet to be established and the representatives of Paramount will have the final word."

Durante los últimos días se han venido publicando en la prensa, sobre todo del grupo Vocento (ABC, La Verdad), numerosos artículos especulando sobre la futura ubicación del parque temático de Paramount en la Región de Murcia. Precisamente en La Verdad el pasado 16 de septiembre se decía:

"Uno de los papeles protagonistas lo tiene el grupo de bancos y cajas de ahorros que se quedaron con los terrenos de Polaris World en Alhama de Murcia, donde disponen de nueve millones de metros cuadrados. Estas entidades (Caja Mediterráneo, Bancaja, Banco de Valencia, Banco Popular y Cajamurcia), integradas en el grupo IRM (Inversiones Resort Mediterráneo), podrían entrar a formar parte de la sociedad de inversores encargada de desarrollar el parque temático de Paramount, por lo que su papel no se limitaría sólo a vender los terrenos. De esta forma, los promotores del proyecto matarían dos pájaros de un tiro: parte de los inversores que están buscando aportarían los terrenos.

Aunque IRM es la mejor situada en la línea de salida, el Gobierno regional puntualizó ayer que no hay nada decidido y que se están analizando otros emplazamientos, como los del eje Cartagena-Murcia, próximo al futuro aeropuerto. No niega, sin embargo, que Alhama ofrece algunas ventajas, como el hecho de que los terrenos están disponibles y de que no hay que negociar con un sinfín de propietarios. Puntualiza que la sociedad instrumental que aún debe constituirse y los representantes de Paramount serán quienes tengan la última palabra."
